The Pure Austin Coaching Philosophy was conceived through many years of competitive racing and coaching. We take a holistic approach towards coaching to ensure that all of our athletes reach the starting line healthy and prepared to compete at the highest level. The PAC coaches understand that each individual enrolled in PAC has unique goals which require unique program development. With this in mind, we prioritize individual evaluation and healthy coach/client communication. Understanding the importance of balance in life is also a cornerstone to our philosophy. Letting go of social pressures and allowing the body to develop naturally according to its physiological clock and personal goals will guarantee optimal fitness. Whether you are a beginner or an elite athlete, PAC will supply you with top quality coaching and testing.

Michelle Lopez, M. Ed., has come full circle and back to Austin! After receiving her Bachelor’s of Science in Public Relations/Sports Marketing and Kinesiology at UT in 1992, she ventured out in search of an active lifestyle. Growing up a tennis player and swimmer, she continued her swimming endeavors in Ft. Lauderdale, competing and ocean racing (and was known to even “chick” a few beach guards). A jack of all traits, she turned her tennis talents in to becoming a competitive beach volleyball player, competing up and down the east coast. She even continued her love for slalom skiing and turned it into show skiing, competing on top pyramids and literally skiing 180 degrees around moving boats! Her love for adventure and activity has even taken her around the world – some “what-was-I-thinking-this-is-crazy” memorable ones include, backpacking through South Africa, swimming a 7000m race to a deserted island in the South Pac, to cycling the entire west coast of the south island of New Zealand. She became an active adventure racer in Tennessee as well as on the Island of Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands. She recently swam in a 4-man tag team 18 miles from Port Aransas to Padre Island for charity. She turned triathlete and competitive cyclist in ‘06, and has competed on and off for the last several years winning her age group divisions. She has also spent over 10 years as a Hi/Low Ropes Course Facilitator taking many on high-flying adventures across stainless steel cables as well as run and directed summer and wilderness camps for schools. Seeking new adventures with her husband Abraham here in Austin, Michelle will be bringing PURE passion, energy and enthusiasm to inspire and motivate others into lifelong fitness activities at all levels. Michelle believes maintaining a zest for lifelong fitness begins with a focus on quality over quantity through education of proper mechanics and technique. Building positive relationships through integrating fun and creative methods into her fitness programs keeps it healthy and strong. Fitness knows no age to Michelle, and she specializes in adding years to one’s fitness life. You may leave her classes crawling, but you’ll crawl away using good form and technique. She inspires even the most reluctant participant to stand in the front row. Her favorite motto we think sums it up… “If you’re not livin’ on the edge, you’re just taking up space!”

Kathleen

Kathleen Woodhead

PAC ROLES:
Team Coordinator

EDUCATION

Bachelors Degree in Accounting, University of Texas, Austin
Masters of Professional Accounting, University of Texas, Austin

TRIATHLON EXPERIENCE

Past President of Houston Racing Triathlon Club
Past Membership Coordinator of Houston Racing Triathlon Club
Eight years of running and triathlon experience including eight marathons, nine half ironmans, four ironmans Kathleen is thrilled to join the PAC crew in her role as PAC Team Coordinator. A recent transplant from Houston, she hopes to use her experience as President of the 800+ member Houston Racing Triathlon Club to help PAC members learn and grow, and to ultimately fall in love with the multisport lifestyle as she has.

Born and raised in Beaumont, TX, Kathleen has always had one activity or another to keep her busy. She took up competitive water skiing at the age of 16, after ending a 13-year attempt at ballet. She continued water skiing through college, where she was on the University of Texas Water Ski Team and also served as Director of the South Central Region of the National Collegiate Water Ski Association.

Kathleen was not exactly the runner growing up. While an active child, she still loathed the few random days a year the PE coach deemed to be "mile day." She tried from time to time to "be a runner" but never had much success. Kathleen did finally run her first mile ever at the age of 22 and has not looked back since. After starting work in Houston, she found it increasingly difficult to remain competitive in water skiing, but running and triathlons quickly took its place.

Kathleen has often called herself a "social racer" as she loves the people she meets both training and racing. She thoroughly enjoys helping others in the sport and gets a huge kick every time she "brings one to the dark side" – whether it be helping someone run their first mile ever, or being there to help press the "submit" button for a friend signing up for their first ironman. Some of Kathleen's best friends are ones she met through triathlon or running and notes the relationships formed through these sports are invaluable and irreplaceable. Kathleen has also used her racing as a means to help various charitable foundations over the past few years, including the American Cancer Society and the National MS Society. One of her proudest moments was crossing the finish line at Ironman Florida 2009, only weeks after a drunk driver killed her best friend's sister. Through that race, Kathleen raised over $15,000 for Mothers Against Drunk Driving in her memory.

Kathleen looks forward to sharing her knowledge and experience with the PAC Team, as well as sharing in all of the training and racing fun to be had by fellow PAC Team members.
